Is surrogacy legal in my state?

Surrogacy is not permitted in the following states: Louisiana and Michigan However, laws vary by state for same-sex couples and single parents.

Who is responsible for the cost of my journey?

Your intended parents and your insurance company are responsible for any pregnancy-related costs during your journey. A legal contract will be implemented to ensure both parties are protected. Your contracts will specify who will be responsible for any costs incurred during your journey.

How long does it take a gestational carrier to be matched?

Being flexible in your matching preferences may reduce the time it takes to be matched with your intended parents. Our agency prides itself on a two-way matching process; intended parents and gestational carriers will be matched based on interviews, beliefs, and thorough questionnaires completed with our staff.  

What are the prerequisites to know before considering surrogacy?

The prerequisites to apply to be a gestational carrier with Gift of Life Surrogacy:

  • Be at least 21 years old and have  successfully delivered at least one child  without any significant pregnancy or postpartum complications
  • Not currently on any medications for mental  health or psychological conditions
  • Not receiving any government or state  assistance of any kind
  • Willing and able to travel for appointments  including monitoring, screenings, and embryo transfer
  • Have a healthy lifestyle, which does not  include illicit or recreational drugs
  • Have a strong support system
Why do I need a support system?

A support system is essential to provide encouragement during this intensive and emotional commitment. Additionally, Gift of Life Surrogacy Agency will continue to support you throughout your journey to help you maintain a healthy life and family balance.

Is medical screening required?

Medical screening is required and thorough. You will undergo a series of different clearances and checks to ensure you understand the process fully and are ready to get started. Our trained medical nursing staff will review your medical records, and you will complete a thorough psychological exam, a background check and drug screening.  Finally, our Director of Engagement will interview you to discuss your social and professional lifestyle.

What type of relationship should I expect with my intended parents?

The two-way matching process will help facilitate the relationship you seek with your intended parents.

Who chooses my OBGYN/midwife/hospital?

After your fertility clinic graduation, you are released to the OBGYN or midwife who managed your previous prenatal care. The hospital will depend on your OBGYN’s privileges. This is determined in the contract with your intended parents.

Do I need legal representation?

If you do not already have an attorney in place, a reproductive law attorney will be provided by Gift of Life Surrogacy Agency.
